The Gangaur festival of Sheopur (M.P.) is celebrated in reverence of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Its name is derived from the words ‘Gana’ and ‘Gauri’, the former being another name for Shiva while the latter is used to address Parvati. This festival is held in the month of ‘Chaitra’ as per the Hindu calendar. The rituals of the festival begin a day after Holi.
